In 1988, NYSDOT decommissioned the section of North Park (Blue). The asphalt was removed, parcel regraded, grass planted, several trees planted and a fence erected. It would appear the NYSDOT intended this parcel to be used to enhance the Derby Veteran's Park.
NOTE: NYSDOT erected a split rail fence and not a guard rail suggesting safety concerns were not an issue.
