In 1952, planning for a memorial PARK was started spurred by the donation of a large flag pole by local firemen.
The parcel now known as the Derby Veterans' Park was used a serviceman's memorial since 1950.
The current chairman of the Evan's Veterans' Committee was a member of the Sesquicentennial Committee. (1971)
